Laurence Gray Sprunt Society Established in Wilmington

United Way of the Cape Fear Area is proud to announce the creation of the Laurence Gray Sprunt Society through a philanthropic bequest from the Will of Laurence Gray Sprunt.

Laurence Gray Sprunt, from the prominent longtime Wilmington family, was the son of James Laurence and Annie Gray Nash Ruffin. He graduated from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill in 1949 and spent over three years in WWII in the Navy aboard the USS Chester T. O’Brien. Mr. Sprunt helped to manage his family home, the Orton Plantation, along with his brother, for the last half of his life, passing away in 2016. Mr. Sprunt was a true southern gentleman who was known for his generous natural and his involvement in many charitable organizations throughout his lifetime and in the Cape Fear Area.

The United Way of the Cape Fear Area’s, Laurence Gray Sprunt Society will continue to carry on the Sprunt legacy through generous gifts of $5000 – $10,000 from community donors.
