The StarNews is partnering with other area media companies to hold United Way Media Day on May 14 to help raise more funds for local nonprofits. As part of our coverage, we asked business and community leaders to share why they give to the United Way.
Michael Reives, plant manager, Victaulic
“When I was younger, I only associated United Way with the NFL because of all the commercials that I saw during the games. As I got older, I then realized that the United Way was another charity that people supported by giving their time, money and heart to create a better world. In 2014, I realized United Way was much more than just a charity. It was an organization that provided support and help to individuals through agencies that they supported. This became the reason I give. When you can see lives being impacted from your support along with many, many others and the far-reaching support it provides. It is encouraging and powerful to know that my little contribution can and will impact the lives of families that are in true need of help and support. This is an organization that I can trust. I can see the impact firsthand and up close and witness lives being impacted and changed. My soul rejoices, and my eyes moisten. That is Why I Give.”
