COVID-19 Cannot Stop a Community’s Good Works

United Way of the Cape Fear Area promotes and encourages the use of the platform Corona Community to protect high-risk populations during COVID-19.

Wilmington, NC: Although COVID-19 has affected daily routines, it has not kept the community from collaborating to generate creative solutions to today’s problems. One particular issue involves the safety of some of the most vulnerable populations: how do they restock basic supplies without leaving their homes? Community organizations have come together to adopt a digitally organized delivery tool called Corona Community with the support of United Way of the Cape Fear Area, New Hanover Disaster Coalition, and Cape Fear Collective.

Corona Community’s sponsoring organization, Crisis Cleanup, has actively supported the Cape Fear community in the past. Crisis Cleanup’s mission is “to help voluntary relief organizations help more people by enabling collaborative disaster recovery”. During these times, where the community has been advised to stay home, Corona Community is a delivery solution to keep those who are at high-risk, safe, and prevent them from being potentially exposed to the Coronavirus.

How does Corona Community Work? Corona Community delivers meals, medical necessities, and pet supplies to those in need. Individuals can submit their requests at www.coronacommunity.org. To fill out a request, individuals will have to:

  1. Complete the Online Request form
  2. Wait for the Confirmation Call, and
  3. Stay Connected

You can access the form by visiting www.coronacommunity.org. A services coverage map is available in an interactive format on the webpage to see if this service is available in your community. Individuals from the Corona Community team will call to confirm the details of the user’s submission. If the call is unanswered, they will try up to 3 times. Corona Community will alert local partners who are providing delivery services. A local partner may contact the user directly to arrange delivery details based upon the needs that are submitted.

For those who may not need items delivered, but would like to get involved by volunteering to help initiatives such as these, please visit www.sharecapefear.org. SHARE Cape Fear is a digital platform that makes it easier for individuals to engage with local non-profits and stay up to date with their needs. Whether it is financial support, donating supplies on non-profit’s Amazon Wish Lists, or signing-up for volunteer opportunities, there are ways to stay connected and give back.

Corona Community’s hotline for serving the community’s needs can be reached by dialing 1-800-451-1954.
